in that report looked to me like obama voters. so you've seen, i think, democrats realize that if they can extend this just beyond election day into a month, they can go on a saturday. they can have folks from churches go early that benefits their side. of course, republicans have those advantages now too. they're doing the same thing. >> robert, is there one party that benefits over the other in regards to early voting? >> if you look at ohio, republicans are really focusing at suburbs of columbus, the capital, and of cincinnati. those suburban areas are where mitt romney did very well in the republican primary. they know they're in a real disdi disadvantage in the state. the bailout is a popular theme there. both parties, craig, are focusing on the number of absentee ballot requests that that's the number political insiders are paying attention to. >> in ohio, the secretary of state, he sent them to everyone. >> the absentee ballots tend to usually favor republicans. that's part of it too. the democrats do better in the early voting because democrats are more likely to go to the polling places.

, and then they forget about us for three years and then they rediscover us again. >> yet, as the news reported this week, we discussed it earlier, this is still shocking. president obama holds a 73-21% lead over mitt romney among latino voters. that's up from the 65-26 advantage he held six weeks ago. >> latino's will decide the election in colorado, nevada, north carolina, florida. >> because? >> because in a very close election latino voters tend to decide which way to vote. it happened in 2000 with president george w. bush in florida and it's going to happen again this year. >> there was a report from the pew hispanic center a few days ago saying a record 24 million, 24 million latinos are eligible to vote. >> right. >> but their turnout rate has consistently lagged behind whites and blacks. >> not that much. the latino decision polls are usually very accurate because they're polling specifically latino voters, registered voters and the unthus see amp level was very low. in the last poll it had increased to 82%. >> that's understandable. >> romney? >> no, we're getting a little bit closer to the elec

as lobbyists. in 2007, thurber advised then senator obama, who championed sweeping lobby reform. >> big money and lobbyists were clearly drowning out the aspirations of the american people. >> reporter: lobbyist jake abrahm off had just gone to prison for cheating clients and bribing congress. lawmakers passed new reforms that required strict public disclosure of lobbying activities and limited the gifts and trips lobbyists can buy from members of congress. today thurber has some surprising words about president obama. >> president obama in his campaign in 2008 said he was going to change the way washington works. >> i will launch the most sweeping ethics reform in history to make the white house the people's house and send the washington lobbyists back to k street. ( applause ) >> he hasn't. he's failed. because if you want to get a piece of legislation like his health care piece through, you have to bring in big interests. he did. he brought in a.a.r.p., he brought in hospital associations, he brought in the a.m.a. in a coalition to support that. >> reporter: increasingly lobbyists aren't j

is john ralston, host of "ralston reports." so that is a big number, what do you think of president obama's support among the latino voters. >> well, i think there are a couple of things going on, the exit polls in nevada showed that barack obama won, but i think mitt romney got himself in trouble with the latino community with the positions he took running to the right in that primary. and now, that is hurting him here in nevada. also, you have to -- realize that the democrats here, especially the culinary union, which is heavily hispanic, has been registering voters at a remarkable clip the last couple of months. and while it is hard for me to believe the margin is that big, alex, it is pretty big. >> hey, john, are nevada's latino voters unique in some sort of way, that we can't take what we see there, and take it to a national level? i mean, do you think it is a fair representation? >> i don't see any reason why it would be different, alex. listen, latinos here are higher unemployment than the white population, just as they do across the country. they have the same hopes and fears. so

not surprisingly, he will say anything on a conference call that they did with reporters. and the ads are doing this, as well. saying that mitt romney is a flip-flopper, saying anything to get elected. that could be very powerful for president obama. >> and if you haven't seen this cover, mitt romney there at the debate podium, next to an empty chair. that image not withstanding, do you get a sense that those in democratic circles may have negatively over-reacted to the president's performance? >> you know, i thought a lot about that. and i don't think they did in this regard. the debate was seen by nearly 70 million people. almost a record, at least over the past 20 years or so. and you know when something permeates culturally, when it ends up on saturday night live. and you get these kinds of covers, especially when you thought you were winning, going away possibly and you have an evening like you did the other night, i can understand why people are really upset in terms of the president's supporters. it doesn't mean that the campaign is over or that the trajectory is changed. it doesn't mean

. the obama team having to spend some time and energy looking back on what even the president's top advisors admit was a lackluster performance, and the questions from reporters still coming. >> the president's never satisfied with his performance. he always challenges himself. i know that he's reviewed the tape and you know, make whatever adjustments he sees as necessary. >> and chief white house correspondent ed henry is live for us. and sounds like the candidates acknowledging that the president didn't get the job done in the last debate and heard axelrod about looking ahead. what exactly is the strategy for looking ahead. >> one of the strategies privately the president getting more aggressive on pushing back against governor romney when he leveled charges about the president's record the last four years, and the challenge for the obama camp is the second debate is not going to be the same format. it's a week from tuesday and at hobson university in new york, a town hall forethe mat and real voters asking questions in addition to the moderators and if you get too tough you might look too

's surprisingly strong jobs report -- >> the unemployment rate has fallen to its lowest level since i took office. >> -- stop his momentum? we'll ask top advisers to both candidates, robert gibbs for obama, ed gillespie for romney. then insight and analysis on our powerhouse round table with our favorite political odd couple, james carville and mary matalin, plus nobel prize winner paul krugman of "the new york times," peggy noonan from "the wall street journal" and abc's jonathan karl. then -- >> and what would you like for christmas, little boy? get off. >> the week's other political slugfest, bill o'reilly joins us live this morning. >> from abc news, "this week" with george stephanopoulos. it's "your voice, your vote." reporting from abc news election headquarters, george stephanopoulos. >> hello, again, just 30 days now until the final votes, and after the most intense week yet of this campaign, mitt romney has momentum. national polls show him gaining ground, and his crowds have picked up, and last night in florida, romney opened up telling about his last visit with an old friend paralyzed

obama did. on body language, if that's what that for everybody. >> i want to give everybody a point of view. this is the spin room. these signs are people that are trying to spin reporters, to try to get reporters to come over to them and tell them what they thought. we can seeac ax getting ready for an interview next to us. with that, panel thanks and lite go to "on the record with greta van susteren." greta? >> greta: thank you. we are here with pat buchanan, a senior adviser of president nixon, ford and reagan and a former presidential candidate himself. pat, what do you think? >> i don't think governor romney could have done a better job. it was outstanding. i have never seen him eye mean, he was tremendously aggressive, but friendly. and the in the -- the president was on the defensive. but in terms of his knowledge on the issues and on every single question, i think it was the best performance of any debate i have seen him do. if i had to mark this as a 15-round fight, i think that governor romney won 13 of 15 rounds, i expect republicans to like his performance tonight. so i
